DA NANG AIR BASE 366th SECURITY POLICE JUSTITIA Vietnam War

The 366th Security Police Squadron (SPS) was a U.S. Air Force unit stationed in South Vietnam during the Vietnam War, primarily responsible for defending Da Nang Air Base. Originally activated as the 366th Air Police Squadron in 1966, the unit was redesignated as the 366th Security Police Squadron the following year.
Key roles and events
  • Base defense: The squadron was tasked with protecting the sprawling Da Nang base, which housed U.S. and South Vietnamese military personnel.
  • Combat tactics: During its service, the unit participated in Operation Safe Side, an initiative that introduced modern light infantry tactics and heavy weapons to Air Force security forces.
  • Tet Offensive: The 366th SPS played a vital role during the 1968 Tet Offensive by repelling significant ground attacks by enemy forces on Da Nang Air Base.
  • Relocation: As U.S. forces began to withdraw from Vietnam, the squadron relocated to Takhli Royal Thai Air Force Base in Thailand in 1972 before moving to Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, later that same year.
