Air Force Combat Action Medal

Air Force Combat Action Medal (AFCAM)  is a relatively new medal issued by the United States Air Force.  Furthermore It was first awarded on June 12, 2007 for actions from September 11, 2001 to a date to be determined as a result may be awarded posthumously.

Rather, central to the integrity of this combat recognition is the adherence to these combat conditions prerequisites.  Almost all additional awards are denoted with ⁵⁄₁₆-inch gold star devices.

Consequently the first recipient of the Air Force Combat Action Medal was Major Steven A. Raspet.  Five other individuals also received the medal at the ceremony.

Since individuals must be flying as authorized aircrew members on aeronautical orders in direct support of a combat zone. The combat must take place either in a combat zone, defined as a geographic designated by the President via Executive Order, or a qualified hazardous duty area in which the member is receiving relevant imminent danger pay or hostile fire pay. The individual must be physically present, at risk of grave danger, and must be performing satisfactorily in accordance with the prescribed rules of engagement.
